LEAVE A LEGACY® to Honor Miami Dade College President with Community Champion Award

Miami, May 1, 2014 - Miami Dade College(MDC) President Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón will be honored with the Community Champion Award at LEAVE A LEGACY’S 17th Annual Donor Next Door Awards Luncheon Thursday, May 15, at Jungle Island. The award recognizes distinguished leaders for their service to the community. 

The Next Door Awards Luncheon will cast a spotlight on philanthropists who support local non-profits through both monetary donations and volunteerism. In addition, LEAVE A LEGACY® will unveil its 13th Annual Family Album, featuring this year’s honorees and their organizations.

Since 1995, President Padrón has presided over the largest institution of higher education in America with more than 165,000 students, awarding more degrees to Hispanics than any other. He is widely recognized as one of the top educational leaders in the world and is often invited to participate in educational policy forums in the United States and abroad. President Padrón has been selected to serve on posts of national prominence by six American presidents. Most recently, President Obama appointed him Chairman of the White House Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans. He has received numerous recognitions in his more than four decades in higher education leadership including being hailed as one of the 10 Best College Presidents in the nation by TIME magazine; one of the eight most influential college presidents in the U.S. in The Washington Post; one of the world’s most influential Hispanics in People magazine; the Carnegie Corporation Centennial Academic Leadership Award and many others. Internationally his awards include the Order of Queen Isabella bestowed by Their Royal Majesties of Spain; France’s Commandeur in the Ordre des Palmes Académiques, the Ponce de León award by Spain’s Royal Princes, and Argentina’s Order of San Martin. He also serves on dozens of important national boards. 

LEAVE A LEGACY® started as an initiative of the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning of Miami-Dade County in 1997. Now there are chapters in more than 150 cities. The Partnership for Philanthropic Planning of Miami-Dade County, is a nonprofit organization comprised of planned giving officers, other nonprofit development officers, and other professional advisors such as attorneys, CPAs, CLUs, CFPs, trust officers and other professionals involved in estate and financial planning, who share the goal of promoting philanthropy in Miami-Dade County.
