Miami Dade College Student Yaacov Moshe Selected for One-Year Scholarship to Study in China

One of Miami Dade College’s (MDC) most enthusiastic language students, Yaacov Moshe, was awarded a one-year scholarship to study at a university in China this fall. The Chinese Government Scholarship, awarded to the 22-year-old foreign languages major, is one of the most prestigious and highly selective awards sponsored by China’s Ministry of Education.

Miami Dade College Wins National Excellence Award

Miami Dade College (MDC) has once again garnered a prestigious award: the Student Success Award of Excellence, conferred upon the college by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). Robotic "Basketball" Game Earns Miami Dade College’s Robotics Team First Place among Florida Public Universities

Miami Dade College’s (MDC) engineering students continue to bring innovative ideas to life, and out-perform major universities at regional and national competitions. At this year’s Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 2014 SoutheastCon, recently held at the University of Kentucky, the nine-member MDC Robotics Club developed an autonomous robot that can navigate shooting lines and score points, in a game similar to basketball.

Miami Dade College Chinese-Language Students Win Big at this Year’s Florida International Chinese Speech and Skit Competition

Chinese-language students at Miami Dade College’s (MDC) prestigious Confucius Institute (CI) recently won eight awards at the 2014 Florida International Chinese Speech and Skit Contest. Among the wins, Carmen Raul, a 10th-grade student who receives language instruction from CI faculty, placed first in the competition’s Level 6 Chinese speech contest.

Miami Dade College Students Win Top Prize at Local Professional Trade Show

Three Miami Dade College (MDC) Kendall Campus students from Associate Professor Senior Marcia Lopes de Mello’s Interior Design 4 studio took home all three awards recently at the IIDA – International Interior Design Association SunCon Student Challenge for designing an eco-friendly reception and waiting room of a pediatric oncology outpatient clinic. Sophomores Cynthia Rondon, the first-place winner, was awarded $1000 and an iPad; Karine Mompremier and Nicole Tenhagen won honorable mentions for their creations, along with an iPad. The interior design students beat out competitors from six other Florida schools. This is the first time that MDC School of Architecture and Interior Design students participate.

MDC’s Teatro Prometeo Presents Lección para señoritas

Teatro Prometeo at Miami Dade College (MDC), one of the major success stories in Miami's theatrical history and the only Spanish-language conservatory in the country, will present Lección para señoritas March 20-22 and 27-29. Set in a cabaret in the Roaring 20s, Lección para señoritas is a modern version of renowned play, The School for Wives, written by Jean-Baptiste Poquelin Moliere (Paris, 1622 - 1673). When Milton Young first enrolled in Miami Dade College’s Introduction to Photography class, he never thought he would have a one-man show displaying his creations. Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Miami Culinary Institute (MCI) showcased its award-winning recipe for success during the recent Simply Italian: Great Wines Americas Tour 2014, coordinated by International Event and Exhibition Management (IEEM). Organizers also presented a donation to Wolfson Campus President Dr. José A. Miami Dade College Selected to Participate in National Walmart Brighter Futures 2.0 Project

Miami Dade College (MDC) has been selected as one of only 12 community colleges in the country to participate in the Walmart Brighter Futures 2.0 Project, which aims to provide low-income youth and adults with the skills necessary to obtain middle-skill jobs, enabling them to become financially self-sufficient. Miami Dade College (MDC) recently announced its 2013 Endowed Teaching Chairs, one of the college’s most distinguished and valued traditions. The annual program recognizes outstanding faculty who continuously strive to accomplish MDC’s mission. Seven professors will be honored this year at a reception at 6 p.m., on Monday, Oct. 14, at the Wolfson Campus’ Chapman Conference Center. MDC’s Endowed Teaching Chairs is generously funded by donors through the ongoing work of the MDC Foundation. The honorees are selected by a committee of their peers who reviewed evidence of student retention and success, effective teaching strategies, professional growth, and making student learning a top priority. Each will receive an annual stipend of $7,500 for three years. To date, more than 300 recipients have been inducted in the program since its inception in 1992.

Miami Culinary Institute at MDC Receives Scholarship Donation from Coconut Grove Arts and Historical Association

The Miami Culinary Institute (MCI) at Miami Dade College (MDC) recently received a scholarship donation from the Coconut Grove Arts and Historical Association. The check presentation by the Association’s President Monty Trainer took place at Tuyo restaurant in the college’s downtown Wolfson Campus.

MDC Students Win Competitive Study Abroad Scholarships for Semester in China

Five Miami Dade College (MDC) students are about to take flight to China. As part of the college’s rich study abroad program, the students were awarded scholarships to spend the upcoming fall semester in Jiangsu, China. Sponsored by the Hanban/Confucius Institute headquarters in Beijing, a non-profit organization promoting world-wide Chinese language education and a partner of MDC’s Confucius Institute, the program pays for tuition, living expenses, meals, and local cultural tours in China. From varying disciplines, the students will attend MDC’s sister university in China, Jiangsu Normal University.

MDC Homestead Campus to Collaborate with the Homestead & Florida City Chambers of Commerce to Create Young Entrepreneurs in the Community

Miami Dade College’s (MDC) School of Continuing Education will be participating in a national program geared toward helping local students in grades 6 through 12 learn the process of starting a running a real business. The Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) Program, in collaboration with MDC, will give students the opportunity to work closely with local business leaders to cultivate and research business ideas, write a business plan, pitch their plan to a panel of investors, obtain funding, develop their brand, participate in a trade show at the end of the year, and actually launch their enterprise.

MDC’s School of Business and Center for Financial Training to Host Future Banker’s Camp

Throughout the month of June, Miami Dade College’s (MDC) School of Business and the Center for Financial Training will host a Future Banker’s Camp, sponsored by the South Florida Workforce Investment Board (SFWIB) and several local banks committed to providing hands-on experience for high school students interested in careers in the financial services industry. The educational component is currently underway. Internships will run June 17 – 28.

– For her extraordinary career on and off the court, Miami Dade College (MDC) Head Women’s Basketball Coach Susan Summons will be honored as an “Icon” of the New England Basketball Hall of Fame on Saturday, June 22 at the DCU Center in Worcester, Mass.
