MDC Selected for Prestigious Carnegie Foundation Leadership Program

I am very proud to announce that Miami Dade College has been selected to participate in the prestigious Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (CASTL) Leadership Program.

The CASTL Leadership Program is dedicated to the continuing development of scholarship in teaching and learning, and facilitating collaboration among institutions with that commitment. Student learning, the scholarship of teaching and learning, and institutional change in support of teaching and learning are priorities of the CASTL program.

The MDC CASTL Team is comprised of the following faculty members:

Karin Alderfer (Reading) – Kendall Campus
Lourdes Espana (Mathematics) – North Campus
Billy Jones (Writing) – Kendall Campus
Renee Kilpatrick (Writing) – InterAmerican Campus
S. Sean Madison (Dean) – Homestead Campus
Isabel Rodriguez-Dehmer (Reading) – North Campus
Marjorie Sussman (Reading) – Wolfson Campus
Michaela Tomova (Learning Support) – Homestead Campus

Among several objectives, the team will focus on:

  1. Identifying teaching that improves student learning in developmental education, and sharing advances across our campuses and with other institutions;
  2. collaborating with Miami Dade County Public Schools to improve student preparation in reading, writing, and mathematics; and
  3. developing a model for other disciplines to expand the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Congratulations to the MDC CASTL team and special thanks to Dr. Norma Goonen, Dr. Dwight Smith and Dean Sean Madison for their leadership in developing MDC's proposal.

Thank you.

Eduardo
