Preparing for Hurricane Season
With each new hurricane season, the message is reinforced with great emphasis: Be Prepared. The only safe assumption is that the 2006 season will repeat the challenges we’ve faced in recent years.
Hurricane season officially begins on June 1 and concludes on November 30. The College’s emergency plan is in place and I encourage each of you to prepare your homes and work areas if you have not already done so. Individual responsibility and all of us working together has proven an effective foundation for emergency preparation.
Attached are two valuable links:
Emergency communications will utilize these primary vehicles:
- MDC Hotline: 305-237-7500. Provides general information and updates.
- MDC Employee Hotline: 305-237-7505. Provides more detailed information of College and campus conditions and plans.
- MDC Homepage: www.mdc.edu. Provides general information and updates.
- Local media: Postings regarding College closing and re-opening information and other important news will be communicated to the major media.
Be sure to call the MDC Employee Hotline at least once daily if the College does close to receive instructions and the latest information regarding the status of classes and operations.
If you or your family need help in the aftermath of a storm, contact your your immediate supervisor. Communication is vital in supporting our MDC community, and the awareness of needs is the first important step in responding to the impact of a storm.
Thank you for the efforts you have made in past years. Let’s make this hurricane season as safe as possible.
Thank you.
