25th anniversary of Miami Book Fair International

This is a milestone year for bibliophiles as we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Miami Book Fair International. The festivities begin on Sunday, Nov. 9, at 4:30 p.m., with an opening celebration at the International Village, and continue through Sunday, Nov. 16.

More than 400 renowned authors, including Junot Díaz, Amy Tan, Dr. Cornel West, Tavis Smiley, Anthony Bourdain, Joyce Carol Oates, Gore Vidal, Derek Walcott and Billy Collins, will present their works during the 2008 Evenings With... series and the Festival of Authors.

The Fair is also celebrating its silver anniversary with several new additions, including the Comix Galaxy, which explores the diversity of the graphic novel genre, and the Cultural Fringes Festival, which will include performances and exhibitions from Miami's emerging arts groups.

As in recent years, the 2008 Fair offers the Children's Alley and the Nov. 14-16 Street Fair. College employees and students may attend all of the Book Fair events free of charge by presenting an MDC ID card.

The Fairgoer's Guide, which includes complete programming for this year's Book Fair, is available at http://www.miamibookfair.com

Thanks are due to the staff of the Florida Center for the Literary Arts, especially executive director Alina Interiàn, Book Fair director Delia López, and the hundreds of Book Fair volunteers at the College and throughout the community who make this unparalleled literary event possible.

I hope to see you at the Fair.

Thank you,

Eduardo
