College receives several prestigious honors
I am happy to announce that Miami Dade College recently received several outstanding honors in the areas of educational programming, leadership, service-learning, communications, technology and environmental consciousness.
The Florida Department of Education presented MDC with the Best Practices Award in Academic Affairs. Specifically, Professor Sarah Garman and Professor Alice Wong were recognized for their innovative use of interdisciplinary learning communities to achieve the learning outcomes important to student success.
The Association of Community College Trustees named Miami Dade College's Board of Trustees the recipient of this year's Equity Award for the Southern region. The award recognizes leadership teams that have demonstrably enhanced and expanded opportunities for minorities and women.
The Florida Campus Compact recently recognized Professor Annette Gibson for contributing to the integration of service-learning into the College's nursing curriculum. The Service-Learning Faculty Award honors one faculty member in each of the three higher-education sectors — state universities, community colleges, and independent colleges and universities.
The National Council for Marketing and Public Relations awarded the College's marketing and publications department gold honors for their work on College Forum (newsletter), Leap (student magazine), Kendall Campus' 40th Anniversary marketing campaign, registration postcards, and brochures for Black History, Women's History and Hispanic Heritage months. College Forum, Leap and MDC magazine also received first-place awards for excellence from the Florida Association of Community Colleges, Institutional Advancement Commission.
The Center for Digital Education and Converge magazine recognized Miami Dade College as one of the most tech-advanced community colleges in the nation. The College was selected because of the high level of service we provide to students and faculty through information technology.
Finally, North Campus was chosen to receive the Grand Award in the Colleges category of the 2008 Green Cleaning Award for Schools & Universities, a national recognition for dedication to keeping schools clean using environmentally-friendly products.
These awards continue to showcase the excellence our faculty, staff and students achieve both in and out of the classroom. Keep up the good work.
Thank you.
Eduardo
