25th Anniversary of the Miami Film Festival Kicks Off Today
Miami Dade College is proud to host the 25th annual Miami International Film Festival (MIFF), beginning today, Feb. 28, with a 7:00 p.m. screening of La misma luna (Under the Same Moon) -- newcomer director/producer Patricia Riggen's poignant tale about the much-debated issue of illegal immigration. The film will be followed by the Opening Night Gala (Silver Anniversary Soirée) at The Plaza on Brickell.
MIFF's silver anniversary lineup features 166 films from 54 countries, and several well-known international stars are scheduled to attend the 11-day cinematic celebration, including: Helen Hunt, Demi Moore, Colin Firth, Juliette Binoche, Kate del Castillo, David Schwimmer, Harvey Keitel, Carlos Saura, Tony Shalhoub, Alfred Molina, Emilio and Gloria Estefan, Kate Beckinsale, Heather Graham, Fito Paez, Gael Garcia Bernal and many others.
Highlights of this year's festival include The REEL Seminar Series of workshops and panel discussions with film industry leaders from DreamWorks and Twentieth Century Fox, to name a couple; the Directors' Homage (March 5, 7 p.m.), honoring the mastery of distinguished directors featured during the last quarter century of the Festival's existence; and the March 8, 9:30 p.m. screening of the Awards Night film La sconsciuta (The Unknown Woman), followed by the Awards Night Gala at the historic Alfred I. Dupont Building.
Thank you to Festival Director Patrick de Bokay and all of the MIFF and College staff who have helped make the 2008 Festival possible.
