Results of 2007-08 Graduating Student Survey

I am pleased to share the results of the MDC Graduate Survey 2007-2008, which was administered to fall and spring graduates during the 2007-2008 academic year.

This online survey provides feedback from graduates on the factors that helped them succeed in their program, as well as ratings of instruction, course work and their overall experience at MDC. The survey also gathers important information about students' perceptions of their own abilities related to the College Student Learning Outcomes at the time of graduation, and how much MDC contributed to their attainment of those outcomes.

Overall, the survey results are very positive, and remain so as compared with the last survey, administered in 2005-06. For example:

  • 94 percent of MDC graduates said they were "very satisfied" or "satisfied" with the College overall.
  • 89 percent rated the overall quality of instruction at MDC as "excellent" or "good."
  • 74 percent rated MDC's quality of service as "excellent" or "good."
  • 91 percent rated themselves "above average" or "average" on all 10 Learning Outcomes, with 70 percent of survey participants rating MDC's contribution as "very helpful" or "helpful."

The survey also showed that graduates appreciated instructors who encouraged and motivated them; were knowledgeable, engaged and enjoyed teaching; and cared about students' progress. Graduates also commented positively on faculty who explained course material thoroughly, were available to help them, communicated well and challenged them to do their best.

A complete report of the survey results may be viewed at: https://www.mdc.edu/ir/iremployees/RR2008-04R.pdf.

Thank you to all who participated in the survey and to the department of Institutional Research, especially Dr. Joanne Bashford and Luisa Canton, for administering and facilitating this process.

Eduardo
