Celebrating 50 Years of MDC

To place a value on what Miami Dade College has meant to this community would be impossible. But if one night could somehow signify the love and respect for MDC, then last night was surely that moment.

825 alumni, luminaries and other special guests packed the Freedom Tower ballroom for MDC’s Golden Gala, celebrating an institution that has changed countless lives and energized the community for half a century. The tributes offered and the memories recalled confirm an incomparable educational legacy.

But the 50th anniversary events were also about the future. As many of you know, MDC hosted the opening of the smART Exhibition this past Monday, a specially curated sale of exceptional contemporary art from the Americas running through December 15, in support of scholarships for tomorrow’s MDC students.

I am very pleased to tell you that the MDC Golden Gala raised $5,015,000 for the American Dream Scholarship Fund at the College. This is an unprecedented, record setting charitable event for our community. It is also an extraordinary tribute to MDC, ensuring that the opportunity to gain a first-rate college education will be available to many more students in our community.

To all of our staff who helped to make these events so successful, thank you for your dedication. As you can see, you have once again helped MDC make a real difference in people’s lives.

Thank you.

Eduardo
