Governor Scott Vetoes $10 Million in Facilities Funding for MDC

Once again, I must report discouraging news on the topic of state funding, news that will certainly challenge MDC’s ability to serve the students of our community.

Today, Governor Scott vetoed more than $10 million in appropriations for classrooms, laboratories, new infrastructure and site improvements at MDC’s campuses. $6.7 million of those funds were desperately needed to expand the Hialeah Campus’ classrooms, science labs and other critical student support facilities. This project was strongly endorsed in a Miami Herald editorial this past Tuesday.

Boosting our economy will require highly skilled workers who are prepared to succeed in a new environment. This is our mission and we will continue to make this point emphatically to our elected leaders. We will also continue to keep you informed.

Thank you.

Eduardo
