MDC and Single Stop USA Celebrate One-Year Anniversary of Collaboration and Launch of New Site

Today marks the one-year anniversary of the educational and economic partnership between Miami Dade College and Single Stop USA, a New York-based nonprofit whose mission is to fight poverty. In just the first year of MDC Single Stop operations at North and Wolfson campuses, 2,500 low-income students were screened, securing more than $3.6 million in food stamps, Medicaid, tax returns and other support services that will help these students complete their post-secondary education.

Helping students in their quest toward college completion lies at the heart of MDC's mission, and I am pleased to announce the launch of a new Single Stop office at Kendall Campus that will allow us to support even more students. Beginning this year, MDC and Single Stop are also partnering with iMentor, a proven mentoring model that pairs new students and professionals in a two-year mentorship relationship. Mentors provide students with much-needed guidance and direction as they pursue a degree or credential at MDC.

I would like to thank all of our MDC Single Stop coordinators, volunteers and mentors for their hard work and continued support of our students. On this one-year anniversary milestone, we not only celebrate the success of our partnership, but also fortify the foundation of our future.

Thank you.

Eduardo
