School for Advanced Studies (SAS) Mock Trial Team earned first place at the recent 2013 Miami-Dade County District High School Competition. The finals were held at the historic Miami-Dade County Courthouse, where SAS defeated Law Enforcement Officers Memorial High School in the semi-finals and Our Lady of Lourdes in the final round, earning the opportunity to represent the county at the state competition to be held in Orlando later this month. The team sponsor is SAS Advanced Placement Government teacher Dr. Derrick Johnson. Over the course of the past two weeks, the SAS team competed against several senior high schools in Miami-Dade County, ultimately defeating the district reigning champions for the past several years, Our Lady of Lourdes.
