Miami, October 17, 2013 - School for Advanced Studies Senior Christy Charnel was honored by MDCPS School Board Member Dr. Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall at the October 16, 2013 Board meeting. Christy was recognized in conjunction with Domestic Violence Month for the hundreds of volunteer hours she has done with abused children at His House and for the way she has promoted non-violence in our community.

Christy founded the Loving Bonds Foundation at her church in an effort to bring children of all socioeconomic backgrounds together to foster healing through exposure to music, counseling, mentorship, but above all else love.

Christy is currently a candidate for a Posse Scholarship and has demonstrated an unusual level of maturity and responsibility at SAS where she will earn an Associate in Arts degree from Miami Dade College before she even graduates from high school.

Top universities such as Johns Hopkins and Mt. Holyoke have invited her to come up for an all expense paid trip to visit their schools next month. This is in recognition of her outstanding academic ability and the leadership she has shown in school and in the community.

Christy plans to major in Pre-Med and Theology after she graduates from SAS in June of 2014. She is deeply appreciative to Dr. Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall for recognizing her dedication to service and academics and her commitment to non-violence in our community.
