Miami, May 7, 2013 - Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez and Commission Chairwoman Rebeca Sosa Designate May 7, 2013 as School for Advanced Studies Day in Miami-Dade County

May 7, 2013 was declared as SAS Day in Miami-Dade County signifying the 25 Year Anniversary of this nationally recognized high school of excellence which just this week was named by Newsweek Magazine as the 6th Best High School in America for 2013.

Photos of the proclamation itself and of the ceremony are included here. The proclamation states that exemplary achievements made by organizations such as SAS make Miami-Dade County a thriving metropolis and it is therefore essential that SAS be recognized and praised for making a difference in our midst.

The proclamation also noted that ninety percent of the SAS Class of 2013 will receive their Associate in Arts degree from Miami Dade College a full month before they graduate from high school and that recent SAS graduates are now attending all of the Top 50 National Universities as listed by U.S. News and World Report Magazine.

"Therefore: BE IT RESOLVED THAT CARLOS A. GIMENEZ, MAYOR OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, COUNTY, CHAIRWOMAN REBECA SOSA AND THE MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, ON BEHALF OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY AND THIS COMMUNITY, do hereby proclaim Tuesday, May 7, 2013, as

School for Advanced Studies Day

In Observance Thereof: I call upon the good people of Miami-Dade County to join me in applauding the students and faculty at this outstanding institution, congratulating them as they celebrate their Silver Anniversary.

The proclamation is then signed by Rebeca Sosa (Chairwoman) and Carlos A. Gimenez (Mayor).
