School for Advanced Studies (SAS) North Campus senior Alejandro Frometa was the Constitution Day High School Essay Contest winner and was honored on September 17, 2013 at the Freedom Tower of Miami Dade College (MDC). Constitution Day is a federal observance but was organized locally by the law firm of Higer Lichter and Givner and is designed to celebrate the United States constitution as the foundation of our democracy.

Frometa was presented with an i Pad before an audience filled with dignitaries such as MDC President Eduardo Padron, Superintendent of Schools Alberto Carvalho, businessman Norman Braman, U.S. Attorney Wilfredo Ferrer, School Board Vice Chair Dr. Martin Karp, Chief Judge of the Third District Court of Appeals Frank Shepherd, and Miami Herald Executive Editor Mindy Marquez. These dignitaries and other community leaders read sections of the U.S. Constitution as a way of honoring the rights and liberties granted and protected by this important document.
