Miami, May 1, 2012 - The Moot Court team at School for Advanced Studies Kendall Campus comprised of juniors Lisset Pino and Jennifer Mosquera has been selected as the winner of the Third District Court of Appeals Moot Court 2012 competition. They will go to Tallahassee to compete against teams from the other four Court of Appeals Districts in the state of Florida on May 10, 2012.

The team is sponsored by SAS Kendall Social Studies teacher, Dr. Derrick Johnson, who was selected last week as the 2012 Teacher of the Year by the Dade County Council for Social Sciences. He teaches Advanced Placement courses at SAS.

Dr. Johnson's 2011 SAS Moot Court team took First Place for the whole state of Florida. The students who won that championship have now graduated and Dr. Johnson is gratified that SAS will have an opportunity to defend their state championship title in the 2012 competition.

Dr. Johnson says that Lisset and Jennifer are exceptional student litigators who will be outstanding representatives for SAS and Miami Dade County Public Schools at the competition in Tallahassee.

Dr. Johnson is an attorney and enjoys working with the SAS students in Mock Trial and Moot Court activities after school. He will accompany Lisset and Jennifer on the trip to Tallahassee on May 10, 2012.
