National League for Nursing Pre-Admission Examination (NLN PAX RN)

The National League for Nursing Pre-Admission Examination (NLN PAX) is a standardized entrance exam for potential nursing students who seek admittance into nursing schools nationwide. The NLN PAX RN comprises three main areas: verbal skills, which consists of both word knowledge and reading comprehension; mathematics, which includes basic calculations, word problems, and incorporates algebra, geometry, conversions, graphs, and applied mathematics; and science, which examines general biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science. Each section consists of all multiple-choice questions and includes experimental items for the purpose of future test development. Answers to these questions are not counted in the scoring. Please note, MDC does not administer the PAX PN exam at this time.

Students taking the NLN PAX RN must follow these instructions:

Step 1:

Create an NLN account at www.nlnonlinetesting.org

Step 2:

Click on the Register button.

Step 3:

Create your NLN Examinee Account.

Step 4:

Search for and Register for an open date at MDC Medical Campus.

Step 5:

Pay the test fee.

Step 6:

Bring your NLN username and password along with two picture ID's to the testing center on the day of your exam.

The following policies apply to all examinees planning to take or present the NLN PAX RN exam at Miami Dade College:

  • Miami Dade College does not accept PAX RN test scores from other institutions for students living in Florida.
    • If a student resides outside of Florida, they can request to take the NLN PAX RN at an approved location in their geographic region. Requests will be handled on a case by case basis. Students cannot elect on their own to take the NLN at a local institution in their home state. Approval and assigning of test location, if granted, are decided by the Medical Campus Testing Director.
  • Calculators are not permitted unless approved as part of a documented disability accommodation.
  • Please bring your own sharpened #2 pencils.
  • Scratch paper will be provided by the testing center.
  • Schedule at least 3 1/2 hours to complete the exam. The actual test time is 3 hours.

 

Retest Procedure:

The NLN PAX RN can only be taken twice for admission into the MDC Nursing Program. Students must wait a minimum of 6 months between test attempts on the NLN PAX RN. This means that students can take the test once and then a second time at least 6 months later. The NLN PAX RN scores are valid for 2 years.

Note:
Examinees must be checked-in and seated by the time scheduled in order to begin the test. Examinees will then have adequate time to finish the test in a reasonable period or within the Testing Office Hours of Operation.

 

Auxiliary Aids and Modifications

Auxiliary Aids and Modifications:

Under certain circumstances, arrangements for auxiliary aids and modifications are permissible. The College makes every reasonable effort to ensure equal access to educational opportunities and experiences for candidates with documented disabilities. These services can include:

  • Sign language interpreters
  • Adaptive or assistive technology
  • Note takers
  • and more

An ACCESS representative can help eligible candidates identify and arrange for accommodations that ensure success.

Instructions for Auxiliary Aids and Modifications:

  1. Candidate presents documentation to ACCESS department.
  2. Testing Center gives the ACCESS department the test vendors contact information.
  3. ACCESS department sends the test vendor the candidate's documentation
  4. Test vendor evaluates the candidate's documentation.
  5. Test vendor determines test accommodations.
  6. Test vendor informs the Testing Center of the needed accommodations.
  7. Testing Center contacts the candidate and schedules test.
  8. Candidate tests.
