ANGEL System Requirements

Students, please ensure that your computer has passed the ANGEL system check that appears on the ANGEL home page. Although your ANGEL session may display correctly, you may encounter glitches with certain areas of your course if all the requirements aren't met. You will need to run the system check on every computer you use to access ANGEL.

System Check 


If your system does NOT meet the requirements outlined in the ANGEL system check, follow the steps below:

  1. Determine which browser and version you are using.
    • In Internet Explorer, select Help from the menu bar and click About Internet Explorer from the menu. You will see the version of Internet Explorer displayed in the Version field.
    • In Firefox, select Firefox, then About Mozilla Firefox. The version number is located on the Firefox image that appears.
  2. If you have any marks appearing on your system check nugget, click on the below next to the system requirement you have not met for instructions on how to update your computer.

AJAX (XMLHttpRequest)

AJAX (XMLHttpRequest) must be supported and enabled. The following browsers support AJAX:

  • Microsoft Internet Exporer (6.0 and higher)
  • Mozilla Firefox (1.x and higher)

ENABLE COOKIES

To enable cookies, follow the instructions below for the browser version you are using.

Microsoft Internet Explorer (6.0 and higher)

  1. Select Internet Options from the Tools menu.
  2. Click on the Privacy tab.
  3. Click the Default button (or manually slide the bar down to Medium) under Settings.
  4. Click OK.

Mozilla Firefox (1.x and higher)

  1. Go to the Tools menu.
  2. Select Options.
  3. Select the Privacy icon in the left panel.
  4. Check the box corresponding to Allow sites to set cookies.
  5. Click OK to save changes.

ENABLE JAVA

To verify that you have java installed, go to http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp and click Verify Installation.

Download the latest java plugin: http://www.java.com/en/

To enable java on your computer:

Microsoft Internet Explorer (6.0 and higher)

  1. From the Tools menu select Internet Options.
  2. Select the Security tab and then the Custom Level option.
  3. Scroll down the dialogue box to Microsoft VM.
  4. Select either Low safety, Medium safety or High safety.
  5. Click the OK button (or press Enter).
  6. Choose Yes in the alert box.
  7. Click the OK button (or press Enter).

Mozilla Firefox (1.x and higher)

  1. From the Edit menu select Preferences.
  2. Click the Advanced category.
  3. Make sure the Enable Java option has it's box checked.

ENABLE JAVASCRIPT

Download the latest java plugin: http://www.java.com/en/

Internet Explorer (6.0 and higher)

  1. Select Tools from the top menu.
  2. Choose Internet Options.
  3. Click Security.
  4. Click Custom Level.
  5. Scroll down till you see section labeled Scripting.
  6. Under Active Scripting, select Enable and click OK.

Internet Explorer (7.0 and higher)

  1. Select Tools > Internet Options.
  2. Click on the Security tab.
  3. Click the Custom Level button.
  4. Scroll down to the Scripting section.
  5. Select Enable for Active Scripting and Scripting of Java Applets.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Select YES if a box appears to confirm.
  8. Click OK. Close window.
  9. Reload page.

Mozilla Firefox (1.x)

  1. Select Tools from the top menu.
  2. Choose Options.
  3. Choose Web Features from the left navigation bar.
  4. Select the checkbox next to Enable JavaScript and click OK.

Mozilla Firefox (2.x and higher)

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  3. Click Content in the Options list.
  4. Under the Content section, check the box next to Enable JavaScript.
  5. Click the Advanced button to open the Advanced JavaScript Options box.
  6. Check the appropriate boxes under Allow scripts to.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click OK.

Please keep in mind that upgrading your browser or installing new security software or security patches may affect your JavaScript settings.
