Community Service By Our Students and Faculty

In fulfilling the mission of the Medical Campus, our students and faculty participate, in addition to the requirements of their programs, in numerous community service activities that provide health services and health education and screenings to the members of the underserved population of Miami-Dade County. For example, students routinely volunteer their time and energy at the Miami Rescue Mission, including their annual “Christmas in July” fair, Thanksgiving,Christmas holiday period, and most recently at the Peñalver Clinic health fair.

Additionally, throughout the year, students and faculty participate in activities that provide health education, screenings, and services at other community and neighborhood health fairs, elementary schools, nursing homes, and other events. We have also participated in activities such as the immersion project in Immokalee, Florida, to help the economically under privileged population.

Since the Fall term of academic year 2005-2006, the Medical Campus has contributed 74,588 hours to our community.
