The Vision Care Technology/Opticianry program at Miami Dade College provides a comprehensive review of its outcomes. The program performs an annual review of the program’s mission, goals, and learning objectives. The review process is initiated during the fall semester with the program personnel (faculty, staff, and clinical supervisor) meeting to assess how the program is achieving the mission, goals, and learning objectives. Collectively, the program personnel review the pass rates on national examinations, state licensing examinations, and reviews the responses from the employer surveys. Curricular content areas where patient interaction is not required, such as lecture and laboratory content, are reviewed extensively by the faculty found in the program. Those content areas where patient/student interaction take place (clinical) are reviewed by all program personnel to ensure multiple perspectives are included during the review process.
Upon completion of the program review, the results are shared with the program’s advisory committee. During the review of these areas, the advisory committee is afforded the opportunity to provide input and guidance related to the program’s ability in achieving these goals. Additionally, during the Advisory Committee meetings, a review of the program’s pass rates on national examinations, state licensing examinations, and the results of the employer surveys are shared. The Advisory Committee also reviews graduate surveys to assess the graduates’ satisfaction with the program.
