Jerona Salomon

Jerona is a displaced homemaker who pays attention and practices what she learned in her classes.

She is implementing the ideas she has leaned in our Personal Financial Management Seminar, which she has taken over the year.

She has paid off must of her credit cards, using the Priority Debt Reduction Program taught in the Seminar, and no longer  harges purchases on her credit cards.

Finally Jerona has learned to evaluate the impact of her financial decisions. Thus, her shopping habits have changed. Before a potential purchase, she asks herself:

  • Do I need it?
  • Will I use it?
  • Can I do without it?
  • Where will this item be in 2 years?
  • What will happen if I do not buy it?

By the end of those question, the purchase is unlikely.

Jerona is our success story for the month because she has leaned to live within a budget and save for her retirement!

Zoila Ojeda

Zoila Ojeda was a displaced homemaker who came to our program a few months ago. She expressed interest in setting up her own business. She took our Small Business Operations class.

Here is her story,  in her own words: “While I was collecting Unemployment, I decided  to establish my own business. Then, I would not be terminated, since I have not been very lucky with my jobs in spite of being a good worker.  I have worked very hard for others and they haven't appreciated my work, so I prefer to work for myself although I must tell you it  is not easy.

Second, I have always enjoyed working with the public and I like it because, in general, we as women like to dress well and look beautiful, for any event.  Also, I like to help others  obtain what they would like to have, including luxuries. So, the store is in an area where most people have low incomes and limited resources.  Finally, I can also help my children, since all the sacrifices I'm now making are so that they can have a better future.”
