Delma Iles is the founder and Artistic Director of Momentum Dance Company, which is currently enjoying its 29th Season. She has created over 50 original dance works for Momentum and has also created works for the Florida Grand Opera, Pensacola Ballet, the Tallahassee Ballet, Ballet Concerto, the Bristol Concert Ballet Company and many others. She previously danced with the Cincinnati Ballet, the Atlanta Ballet, Pittsburgh Ballet Theater, and Fusion Dance Company among others. Under her leadership Momentum has performed in France, Mexico and the Bahamas as well as at the National Dance Week New York Festival. In addition, she created the nationally recognized Miami Dance Festival, currently in its seventh year. Ms. Iles holds a B.A. in Teaching of Ballet from Virginia Intermont College and a M.F.A. in Dance from New York University. She has twice been awarded Florida Artist Fellowships in Dance as well as a Rotary Foundation Fellowship for international study, and numerous other grants and awards. In the summer of 2009 she studied classical Indian dance in Mumbai through a Miami Dade County Cultural Advancement grant.
She currently coordinates the dance program at Miami Dade College, Wolfson Campus. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Arts Action Alliance, and has previously served on the Boards of Arts For A Complete Education, the Florida Dance Association, the Dance Umbrella of Greater Miami, and the Children’s Cultural Coalition. Her honors and awards include: the Phi Theta Kappa Award for excellence in teaching awarded by the students at MDC Wolfson Campus, and the Doris Leeper Award for outstanding contributions to arts education in Florida awarded by the statewide arts advocacy group Arts for A Complete Education. She was selected in 2007 by the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts to for a Miami Made Commissioning Project. She was also selected in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 for Creative Capital consulting projects.
