Eric W. Hoffman is the Dean of Miami Dade College's Honors College. Dr. Hoffman previously served as the Founding Director of Flagler College's Honors Program where he led and oversaw the launch of a new Honors program. Under his direction, Flagler College's Honors Program saw significant growth and improved retention through a student-centered approach that emphasized academic excellence, leadership opportunities, and service to the community. Dr. Hoffman has also held faculty and administrative appointments at Lynn University, Barry University, and Washington State University. Dr. Hoffman has been recognized for his teaching, service, and scholarship with two professor of the year awards, and is an accomplished health communication practitioner and scholar with dozens of articles and conference presentations to his credit, and a national award from the American Cancer Society for his work in the field of tobacco prevention and cessation.
Having grown up in South Florida, Dr. Hoffman is not unfamiliar with Miami Dade College and counts both of his parents as alumni of MDC. He earned his Ph.D. in Mass Communication and a graduate cognate in Educational Leadership from Florida State University. Dr. Hoffman also earned his M.S. in Marketing Communication, and graduated cum laude with a B.S in Business Communication from FSU. Dr. Hoffman also values and understands the demands and opportunities students face at Miami Dade College. After high school, he attended Palm Beach Junior College (now Palm Beach State College) and after earning his A.A., he transferred to Florida State University. Along with his love of literature and art, he likes racing road and mountain bikes, surfing, running, and snowboarding. Dr. Hoffman enjoys creating a challenging, rewarding, and supportive culture that cultivates success for students from all backgrounds.
