Description
The School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA) was originally chartered in 1865 as part of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, educating students in studio fine arts. The last 60 years, it has had a partnership with Tufts University. Students attend both schools, completing their studio work at SMFA, and their academic courses at Tufts in order to receive their Bachelor of Fine Arts. The School of the Museum of Fine Arts is nationally accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).
Transfer Agreement Highlights
The articulation agreement signed between both institutions enhances the transfer process of Miami Dade graduates into the Bachelor of Fine Arts, as well as to receive SMFA students wishing to attend Miami Dade College and the New World School of the Arts. Both institutions agree on accepting each other courses, and placing students at an appropriate level determined by portfolio reviews. The agreement facilitates the admission of students of each institution into courses administered and taught by the other, thus permitting the exchange of students.
Scholarships
Transfer students are eligible for both need-based and merit-based scholarships. In order for students to qualify for need-based aid, they must complete both the SMFA Financial Aid application and the FAFSA by the March 15 deadline. All transfer applicants who meet SMFA’s March 1 priority application deadline are automatically eligible for merit scholarship consideration. There is no special paperwork for students to complete. The SMFA will notify merit scholarship recipients in early-April.
