Performing Arts Scholarship Application Packet

Purpose

The MDC Performing Arts Scholarship awards deserving students based on merit and exceptional performance in their area of study.  This scholarship, determined by the Area Coordinator, is designed for students who wish to pursue further studies in the performing arts, and go out of their way to support their art.  If you’re interesting in pursuing a career in the performing arts, just contact the area coordinator.

Criteria

  • Grade point average of at least a 2.75
  • Must be a Music, Theater or Dance Major
  • Must be registered for at least 9 credits
  • Must be in good standing with the college, i.e. no registration holds, suspensions, or probations
  • Awards will be given at the end of the semester after the student has successfully completed the requirements set forth by the Area Coordinator
  • Apply online by established deadline date
  • Each Area will determine specifics for their award

  • All applicants will present two (2) minutes dance solo (style of your choice)
  • Participate in a contemporary dance technique class

  • Students will perform from memory two contrasting piano works from the standard piano literature
  • Must have an “A” average in piano lessons for the Fall term and be registered for piano lessons the Spring term to continue the award
  • Student will also perform on a piano recital each semester
  • Two awardees will be selected
  • Faculty in attendance will select the two students to be awarded the scholarship money.
  • Student will also submit a resume of musical activities and awards

  • Students will perform from memory two (2) contrasting songs in a popular musical style (jazz, pop, rock, etc.).   
    • 1. An up-tempo piece  
    • 2. A ballad.   If performing jazz, improvisation is encouraged but not required.
