ADVISEMENT FOR NEW VOCATIONAL CERTIFICATE STUDENTS

 

1. THE VOCATIONAL CERTIFICATE STUDENT
RESOURCE CENTER

New students visiting the center may be advised by a counselor by appointment or by walking-in 
during office hours. Students receive informational material, college and program admission
assistance, and referral to other resources, as needed.  Forms are provided in the VCSRC.

2. ADMISSION TO COLLEGE

New students must complete and submit the MDCC Application for Admission or
Re-admission to Vocational Credit Courses and Programs form (pink& white) to the
REGISTRAR’s office, in room #1201 (or at any Campus office). THERE IS NO APPLICATION
FEE for vocational certificate students. Applicants will need to show two forms of identification,
one must be a picture ID. Florida residents must be able to prove residency of one year or more.
Call the REGISTRAR at (305) 237- 4160, for specific information.

 

3. ADMISSION CRITERIA – T.A.B.E.**

On receipt of a confirmation letter from the Registrar’s office, an appointment must be made with
the TESTING department to take the Test of Adult Basic Education (T.A.B.E.), or to have
evaluated any higher educational qualifications (such as, an AA degree or higher). Call (305) 237-4275
for the TESTING department of the Medical Campus. Students who have been officially
admitted into the college may take the TABE at any MDCC campus. Students are encouraged
to visit the VCSRC after testing and take with them the T.A.B.E. results/ report for program
admission evaluation and assessment

 

LPN applicants: In addition to meeting TABE requirements, applicants with TABE scores of 10
or more in all basic skill areas must also take the Nurse Entrance Test (NET). 

 

EXEMPTIONS: Applicants may also be assessed for exemptions to the T.A.B.E: persons with an
Associate of Arts,  Bachelors’ degree or higher, acceptable CPT, CLAST, or SAT/ ACT scores.
Official documents, transcripts and test reports, will be evaluated for exemption by the TESTING
department, in room #1301 (Success Center).   

NON-MDCC T.A.B.E Reports: TABE score reports from institutions outside of the college
system may be considered for admission. These reports must meet all of the following requirements:
reports must be less than 2-years old from the date of application; only scores from test forms A,
level 7 or 8, and reported on a  “Student Multi-Referenced Report”, will be accepted. Students
must have the report sent/ mailed in a sealed envelope to the TESTING department
(or, bring it themselves), the report must bear the seal of the institution, and the name and signature
of the testing administrator.

 

4. APPLICATION FOR PROGRAM SELECTION

Students, who have been officially admitted into the college and have taken the T.A.B.E., must
complete an Application for Program Selection (YELLOW form), which is available in the
VCSRC, or by mail. This form is processed in the VCSRC.   

 

5. LETTER OF ACCEPTANCE

Applicants who have met the admission criteria before the deadline, and have been selected for
admission will be sent a letter of acceptance. Applicants must respond promptly to indicate
their intention to begin and register for classes, and make an appointment with the PSAV
Student Services Specialist. Applicants who fail to meet the admissions requirements for the
program will be sent a letter stating their status and area/s of deficiency.
