ITEM  DISCUSSION/RECOMMENDATION
1. Introduction of Members/Guests

2. Overview of FIPSE and Hugoton Foundation Grants

Dr. Aronovitz explained to the members that The FIPSE Grant is designed to develop a website and participate in the integration of Ethics Across the Curriculum. Working in partnership with SUNY Plattsburgh and Utah Valley State College we are working on the development of health care ethics cases to be used as teaching tools. These cases will undergo intense scrutiny for validity and reliability.  We will be involved in developing case studies for use by others. The web page is devoted to health care ethics with the purpose of disseminating information. Both FIPSE and the Hugoton Foundation have also provided funding to support the Institute director=s release time.
3. Status Report on Institute See attached
4.Web page Ellyn Biggs presented a brochure and showed the members the website: www.mdcc.edu/medical/Bioethics
5. Role of the Institute Members discussed the direction of the Institute. Dr. Goodman wanted to be assured that the Institute would not duplicate services already provided in the Community. Dr. Aronovitz stated that our desire is to collaborate with existing organization, rather than compete with them.

Dr. Labadie suggested that the Institute develop a forum on public health policy related to ethical issues.

Dr. Callahan suggested that a forum be developed which deals with the economics of health care-rationing and the trends in health care that are being  driven by economic concerns.

Dr. Petrozella suggested that the Institute arrange for presentations during MDCC Conference Day in March, 2001.

6. Web Page Members suggested that the website could have a page dedicated to faculty who could share teaching strategies and be a resource. Dr. Woolley suggested an Ethics/Institute newsletter.
7. Promotion of the Institute Members suggested that an add be placed in the Herald informing the community of our Institute. An additional suggestion was the creation of a newsletter that could be
e -mailed.
8. Mission of the Institute This discussion comprised most of the meeting. The draft mission will be critiqued more fully by the members via the advisory forum which will be placed on the website.
