Dear MDC Family,

Preparation is always the priority at Miami Dade College as we start the 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season, which runs June 1 through November 30. Once again, it is predicted to be an above average tropical cyclone season for a sixth consecutive year. And we all know very well, the impact from a single storm can have lasting effects. Following recommendations from Hurricane Preparedness Week last month and shared by the Office of Emergency Management, it is important that we all review our personal and workplace emergency plans. We are fortunate the Florida Legislature established the 2022 Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday from May 28 through June 10, so start preparing now and save!

Just like for the College, it is important for you and your family to be ready. For assistance with your personal storm plan, you may visit Florida Get a Plan. You may also review MDC's extensive hurricane preparedness information and resources listed on our Emergency Preparedness website.

As a "Storm Ready College," accredited by the National Weather Service (NWS), MDC is prepared with emergency efforts in place. This includes supporting our students and employees with the information everyone needs before, during, and after a storm, via the following methods:

• MDC Alerts: Receive an alert from the College's emergency notification system (ENS) when there are urgent situations that require protective actions. For more information, please read the Student & Employee Information section . Also, please ensure your personal contact information is updated via myMDC for students or MDConnect for employees.
• Email: Important information regarding the status of operations will also be sent to student MDC and employee work emails.
• MDC Home Page: Provides general information and updates.
• The MDC Hotline 305-237-7500, and the MDC Employee Hotline 305-237-7505.
• Social Media: For timely updates, follow @MDCAlert on Twitter, you may also follow Miami Dade College on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
• Local media: Vital information regarding the College's closing and reopening, as well as other important MDC news will be communicated to local media channels and shared by them.
• Mobile App: Download the official MyMDCApp and the Official MDC Safety App (LiveSafe) for real-time information. You may download "LiveSafe" from Google Play or the Apple App Store.
