Dear MDC Faculty,
On January 16 our nation will come together to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a man who has touched the hearts and minds of people around the world. Thanks to his tireless efforts and courageous leadership, Dr. King helped pave a path to ensure that achieving the American dream is attainable for all.
As Dr. King famously said, “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.” At Miami Dade College, we are proud to be a changemaking institution that is committed to creating a positive impact in our community and beyond. As democracy’s college, we are dedicated to empowering our students to become active and engaged citizens who are equipped to make a difference in the world. This year, we will again honor Dr. King’s memory by hosting a variety of programming across all of our campuses. Be sure to visit the
MDC events calendar page to find out how you can participate.
The Institute for Civic Engagement and Democracy (iCED) and Student Life has also partnered with City Year Miami, Urban Paradise Guild, Miami-Dade Parks, Branches, Feeding South Florida, and other organizations to provide a host of service opportunities beginning Friday and through the holiday weekend. Examples include coastal cleanups, elementary school beautification, park landscaping, and food distribution preparation. For details and to RSVP, simply email mlk@mdc.edu or contact your campus’
iCED office.
On this Martin Luther King Jr. Day, let us work together to continue creating a better future for all. |
