As Women’s History Month begins, we take a moment to recognize the many contributions that women have made throughout history. This month holds a special place in my heart, as I take a moment to reflect on the inspiring women who have shaped my life and instilled in me the important values that guide me daily. From my mother to my mentors, I owe a debt of gratitude to these remarkable women who have motivated me to pursue my dreams.
Our community has a lot to be proud of as we celebrate this month, with a rich history of influential women who have made significant contributions. Let us not forget that Miami was founded by Julia Tuttle, and our beautiful Brickell area owes its existence to Mary Brickell. Our county is also led by its first female mayor Daniella Levine Cava, and our major league baseball team is managed by Kim Ng, with Caroline O’Connor serving as the first female president.
At MDC, I am honored to serve as the first female President to lead our great College, alongside our Executive Vice President and Provost, Dr. Malou Harrison. There is much to celebrate this month and still so much to do. I encourage everyone to come together as a community and participate in the various events on our campuses to honor the incredible women who have made history and continue to inspire us today!
