It is with great pride that I share the exciting news that four Miami Dade College students have been named recipients of the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Foundation's Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship Award. All members of the Honors College, this year's proud finalists are Kayla Ribeiro from Kendall Campus and Javier Gil, Nathalie Saladrigas and Carlen Arevalo from Padron Campus.
This year, more than 1,700 students from 448 community colleges applied for the highly competitive national scholarship which provides students with up to $55,000 a year to complete their upper division studies. Our students are among only 60 who were selected. Just this week I, along with other members of our MDC leadership team had the honor of delivering the news to them.
Along with financial support, these new Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholars will receive comprehensive educational advising to guide them through the process of transitioning to a four-year college and preparing for their careers. Scholars will also receive opportunities for internships, study abroad and graduate school funding, as well as connection to a network of thousands of Cooke Scholars and Alumni.
Since 2002, Miami Dade College has had 50 students awarded the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation's Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship, making us the college with the highest number of recipients nationwide. This accomplishment speaks volumes about our commitment to providing opportunities and unlocking potential for our students.
Join me in congratulating Kayla Ribeiro, Javier Gil, Nathalie Saladrigas and Carlen Arevalo who truly exemplify academic excellence. Everyone in the MDC family applauds your success and we look forward to seeing the wonderful things your bright futures hold. We are so proud of you!
