Mission

The mission of Educational Talent Search is to provide students with a blueprint to attain post-secondary education through academic support, personal enrichment, and college & career exploration.

Vision

To become the nation’s premier TRIO program by providing member schools, students, and parents comprehensive resources that will maximize student’s potential for success in academia.

Miami Dade College Educational Talent Search Program (ETS) is a TRIO program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education. It is a free comprehensive intervention program designed to help middle and high school students achieve their academic and career goals. ETS goal is for its students to graduate high school and continue to complete their post-secondary education.

ETS specifically serves students who are potentially first-generation college students and meet federal income guidelines.

The schools that we serve are:

  • Miami Central Senior High School
  • Miami Norland Middle School
  • Miami Norland Senior High School
  • North Miami Beach Senior High School

Participants receive:

  • Academic, financial, career, or personal counseling including advice on entering secondary or postsecondary programs.
  • Free cultural events and field trips
  • Career exploration and aptitude assessment
  • Tutorial services
  • Exposure to college campuses
  • Assistance in completing college admissions and financial aid applications (FAFSA)
  • Assistance in preparing for college entrance exams (SAT/ACT)
  • Mentoring programs
  • Special activities for sixth, seventh, and eighth graders
  • Conflict resolution
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Study and test taking skills.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident.
  • Be first-generation college students (neither parent/legal guardian has graduated with a bachelor’s degree)
  • Be economically disadvantaged, limited/low income.
  • Be a student with a documented disability
