The Mission of the Institute is to:
- Create awareness in the community of ethical issues in health care.
- Impart to faculty and students the skills and background needed to apply critical thinking and ethics in their disciplines.
- Promote a forum through which skills and decision-making related to ethical issues in health care can be addressed.
- Promote collaboration among disciplines.

- Director is an active member of Earth Ethics Council (faculty cross discipline).
- Collaborated with faculty across disciplines and presented a poster at the Association of American Colleges and Universities Faculty Work and the
New Academy: Emerging Challenges and Evolving Roles,November, 2006 Chicago, Illinois. Poster entitled: Linking Earth Ethics, Global Education and Service Learning To Foster Social Responsibility.
- Member of the Miami Center for Ethical Awareness Advisory Committee.
Co-Chairs are Drs. Fink and Lund. This is faculty cross discipline advisory committee, which meets at Kendall Campus where the Center is housed.
- Institute for Ethics in Health Care Web Site: Article was posted during August entitled Should Health Care Providers promote the public storage of Umbilical Cord Blood?
Impart to faculty and students the skills and background needed to apply critical thinking and ethics in their disciplines and promote a forum through which skills and decision-making related to ethical issues in health care can be addressed.
- Director was invited and presented to classes at the Medical Campus. Disciplines included nursing, cardio respiratory and massage therapy. These presentations are on campus and at the clinical locations.
- Director teaches all the community health ethics forums at the Medical Campus, Homestead and On Site Baptist. Currently the Community Health Coordinator at Homestead is conducting these classes.
Collaboration between the Director and Coordinator occurred to insure
continuity.
Virtual Ethics Forums were conducted through WEB CT Chat
room option for nursing students.
- Workshops were offered through College Training and Development and the Succeed Grant throughout the academic year. Continuing Education Credits were arranged through Community Education.
- Ecozoic Era: Audience Faculty: Director presented
- Ethics for Everyone: Audience Faculty. Co-sponsored with
Succeed Grant. (two workshops held Summer A and Summer B)

- Institute for Ethics in Health Care co-sponsored the University of Miami Bioethics Clinical Conference under the direction of Dr. Ken Goodman. All faculty were invited to submit a request. Ten faculty attended. Requests were reviewed by the Director and Interim Director of Nursing, Lessie Pryor.
- Field Experiences: Students/faculty participated in field experiences focused on increasing their understanding and responsibility toward the environment. The theme is: Healthy Environment = Healthy People.The Earth Ethics Institute supported the costs and arrangements for these activities.
Everglades National Park: Faculty: Drs. Carol Petrozella, and Brad Stocker. (Spring)
Biscayne Nature Park (2 field trips Summer) Dr. Carol Petrozella and Professor Bonnie Hammack. Students participated in the
Seagrass Adventure Program. This program included students from the Virtual College Nursing Transition program. The Transition students were given an assignment and required to post to the discussion board prior to this experience.
