Avant offers proficiency and placement tests that cover a range of needs, languages and ages. All of Avant’s online tests assess true language proficiency with reliable and accurate data and are easy to use, cost effective, and provide quick results.

Proficiency Tests

Avant’s computer adaptive language proficiency tests are used by students, schools, and individuals across the globe to qualify for Seal of Biliteracy programs, measure language growth, and illustrate program quality.

  • STAMP: 4-skill language proficiency test
  • WorldSpeak: 2-skill test of less commonly taught languages

Avant STAMP

Avant STAMP stands for Standards-Based Measurement of Proficiency and is a web-based test that assesses language proficiency. An Avant STAMP 4S test has four sections – Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking, and the results of this test inform test takers and educators about learning progress and program effectiveness. Avant STAMP 4S test items are based on real-world, everyday situations. Avant STAMP 4S measures a test taker’s language ability according to Benchmark Levels that are based on national standards. Test results will indicate the level of proficiency achieved for each section of the test.

Avant WorldSpeak

Avant WorldSpeak is a web-based test that assesses language proficiency for Less Commonly Taught Languages (LCTLs) that can be used in the same way as Avant STAMP. Avant WorldSpeak assesses two domains – Writing and Speaking, and the results of this test inform test takers and educators about learning progress and program effectiveness. Avant WorldSpeak test items are based on real-world, everyday situations. Avant WorldSpeak measures a test taker’s language ability according to Benchmark Levels that are based on national standards. Test results will indicate the level of proficiency achieved for each section of the test.

For tests proctored by Miami Dade College for external vendors, under certain circumstances, arrangements for auxiliary aids and modifications may be available to students. For these tests, auxiliary aids and modifications are subject solely to the testing vendors availability, policies and approval.

Instructions for Auxiliary Aids and Modifications:

  1. Candidate sends documentation to test vendor.
  2. Test vendor evaluates the candidate's documentation.
  3. Test vendor determines the candidate's test accommodations.
  4. Test vendor informs candidate of accommodations and schedules test.

Test vendor informs Testing Center of candidate's accommodations and sends test materials for test day.

Note:  Examinees must be checked-in and seated by the time scheduled in order to begin the test. Examinees will then have adequate time to finish the test in a reasonable period or within the Hours of Operation.

Preparing for the Avant STAMP 4S Assessment

Visit the Technology Check page to confirm your computer is configured properly and all technology preparation steps are complete before beginning testing. Take an Avant STAMP sample test to familiarize yourself with the layout of the test and the types of prompts that you can expect. It is also advisable to read the Avant STAMP 4S Benchmarks and Rubric Guide if you want information about the skills you need to demonstrate to achieve a certain test level.
