Testing and Assessment

FCAT - Florida's Comprehensive Assessment Test

FCAT 2.0 (Grade 10) Reading scores ≥ 262 will be used for exempting students from the reading and writing placement test. The test scores expire after two years from the date of test. This is different than the procedure previously used for expiring FCAT 1.0 (Grade 10) scores.

The FCAT 1.0 (Grade 10) Pilot will continue through the 2013-2014 academic year with June 2012 through June 2013 eligible high school graduates who took the FCAT 1.0 (Grade 10) through spring, 2012.

  • Starting with the 2011-2012 school year, tenth graders no longer take the math FCAT.
  • The FCAT math graduation requirement was replaced with Florida End-of-Course (EOC) math exams.
  • The first required EOC math exam (Algebra 1) was administered in 2012. These scores are not used for math placement purposes in Florida.
  • FCAT end-of-course (EOC) mathematics exam is not used for placement purposes.
  • FCAT 1.0 (Grade 10) Pilot at MDC ends for new students effective with the 2014 Fall term.
  • A cohort of students took FCAT 1.0 (Grade 10) in 2011 and 2012 (11th graders in 2011 and 12th graders in 2012 who started 9th grade in 2009). These administrations were not converted to the FCAT 2.0 equivalent scale.
  • The 2011 FCAT 2.0 administrations (10th graders in 2011) were scored on an FCAT (1.0) equivalent scale, with subsequent administrations on the new FCAT 2.0 scale.

The testing criteria and guidelines for the FCAT Pilot Project are as follows:

Miami Dade College is participating in an FCAT Pilot Project that allows first-time-in-college (FTIC) early college (dual) enrolled students, and FTIC students who are "prior year" high school graduates, to be exempt from taking the CPT/PERT if they earn an FCAT scale score within the ranges listed below (based on the 2005 FCAT scores).

For tests not administered by Miami Dade College, arrangements for auxiliary aids and modifications are subject solely to the testing vendors availability and policies. Please visit the test vendors webpage for additional information.
