Placement Testing

 
First Time in College Students:Transfer Students:
  • All new students enrolling in college credit programs must demonstrate college-readiness by taking one of the following placement exams:
  • ACT
  • SAT
  • CPT
  • PERT
  • FCAT
  • If you have successfully completed a college-level English and Math course, send your transcripts.
  • If you plan on enrolling exclusively in Virtual College courses, call (305) 237-3800 and ask to speak with an advisor about course selection.

To take theACT orSAT:

  • Please select Miami Dade College as a score recipient when taking any of the two exams.
  • Scores will be sent electronically.

To take theCPT:

  • You may visit any of MDC’s 7 campus Testing Departments.
  • If you reside outside of the Miami Dade county, please contact Adam Porro, Testing Director at the Wolfson Campus at (305) 237-3611 or aporro@mdc.edu to assist you in setting up a testing session at another location. Please make sure you have already chosen an approved testing site.

Required to take an English competency exam (Compass/ESL):

  • Students who graduated from a non-English speaking high school.
  • Students who took ESOL during their 11th or 12th grade at any Engish-seaking high school.
  • Students who earned a GED in Spanish.
  • Before sending score reports, review your scores and Miami Dade College’s placement information, by visiting the Placement Criteria Document.
  • Not all College Prep courses are available online; therefore, students applying to online degree programs must demonstrate college-readiness as defined by the Placement Criteria Document.

If you took the ACT and/or SAT:

  • Contact ACT and/or SAT to request that your scores are sent to Miami Dade College.

If you took the ACCUPLACER (CPT):

  • All ACCUPLACER (CPT) tests administered by outside institutions must be sent by the testing department where you took the test.
  • All students must request their score reports to be sent to MDC’s Wolfson Campus Testing Department.

Local StudentsOut-of-Area Students
  • Miami Dade College has 7 testing centers available for Virtual College students.
  • If you have not taken a placement proctored examination, you may take the computerized placement test at MDC.
  • Students are encouraged to review placement test information prior to taking their exam.

In order to take an exam, you must present two forms of identification. One must be a current (not expired) official photo ID from the list below:

  • Valid Driver's License issued by the United States
  • Florida or Government ID card
  • A valid passport
  • Military ID
  • Tribal ID

The second ID must have your name with a signature or picture (e.g. MDC card, school ID, library card, Social Security card, Voter's Registration card, credit/debit card, or other official ID bearing your name and signature).
The Testing Department will not allow you to take an exam without the proper identification.

  • If you are interesting in becoming a Virtual College student, live outside the South Florida area, and you have not taken a placement test, you must locate an approved proctor to administer your exam.
  • NCTA may be helpful in locating a testing facility.
  • Students are responsible for paying any costs that may be incurred (proctor fees, etc.).

To take computerized placement test:

  • Contact your local community college for testing schedules and fees.
  • You must also verify that the placement test you are taking is the ACCUPLACER (CPT).
