Criteria for Program Selection
 

Enrollment in the program is limited and competitive. Meeting the admissions requirements does not guarantee program acceptance. For this reason, the following criteria are used to determine which applicants will be admitted.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Minimum 2.5 Cumulative GPA

Minimum 2.75 Program GPA

Points awarded in several categories (see below). Program Grade Point Average (GPA) will be used to rank students in the event of a point tie.

Completion of a minimum of 25 observation hours with a licensed Physical Therapist or Physical Therapist Assistant. The Observation Hours Form must be completed and included with your application by September 1st.

Florida residents will be given preference over non-residents.

Final Acceptance will be based on the submission of all required documents. Please note that there is no waiting list.

   
POINTS AWARDED

Selection is based on the candidate having the highest points earned. Points will be awarded as follows:
   
1 4 Points for each 1st semester courses completed
2 Grades earned in 1st semester courses A = 8 points B = 4 points C = 1 point Below C = 0 points

  3.50 - 4.00 = 10 points
3.30 - 3.49 = 8 points
2.90 - 3.29 = 6 points
2.50 - 2.89 = 4 points
2.00 - 2.49 = 2 points
Less than 2.0 = 0 points
  3.50 - 4.00 = 10 points
3.30 - 3.49 = 8 points
2.90 - 3.29 = 6 points
2.50 - 2.89 = 4 points
2.00 - 2.49 = 2 points
Less than 2.0 = 0 points
   
EXTRA POINTS
   
1 1 point for each of the following courses completed: BSC 2086, BSC 2086 L, PSY 2012, Humanities selection (ARH 1000, HUM 1020, LIT 2000, MUL 1010, PHI 2010, THE 2000) and CCT or CGS 1060 with a grade of C or higher.
2 1 point for a minimum of 1 year of experience in the following fields: Athletic Trainer (ATC), Physical Therapy Aide/Technician, Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT), Nursing Professional (LPN or RN). Proof of official records of graduation, professional certification and/or licensure if applicable and verification of employment history is required.
3 Degree Completion
Associate in Arts = 1 point
Baccalaureate = 2 points
Masters = 3 points
Doctorate = 4 points
   
TRANSFER STUDENTS
   

If you have previously attended any college or university other than Miami Dade College, you must arrange for that institution to send official transcripts to the Physical Therapist Assistant Program at the Medical Campus by September 1st for a January acceptance.

Students who have attended foreign colleges must submit original transcripts and a certified English translation before February 1st to the Registrar at the Medical Campus for evaluation. For details, please call 305-237-4141. Students who have attended a foreign allied health or nursing program should consult the Miami Dade College catalog for more information about how to have their transcripts, diplomas, and credentials evaluated for U.S. equivalency.

All Medical Campus students must complete the FDLE Waiver and Statement form.This form is to authorize dissemination to Miami Dade College - Medical Campus of any national criminal history record that may pertain to you.

In addition, all program students must complete a "background check" through the identified MDC agent https://ibrinc.com/mdc/select and cleared by the 1st day of class. Depending on your program of study an additional background check may be required. In addition, prior to entry into a clinical site, some clinical sites will require more frequent background checks and clearance.

Successful completion of the MDC level two background check process or completion of a MDC nursing/health sciences program does not guarantee a graduate's eligibility for participation in the professional credentialing process or for related employment. Credentialing agencies and health care employers may have additional eligibility criteria not required by an educational institution. Individuals who have been arrested or convicted of any felony crime during the last 15 years are strongly urged to inquire directly of the licensing board in the jurisdiction in which they intend to practice.
