To be eligible for admission to Miami Dade College and the Paramedic Program at the Medical Campus, you must complete the following steps:

  1. You are 18 years old and have earned, or will earn at the time of enrollment into the program, a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (GED).
  2. If this is your initial enrollment at Miami Dade College or you have not been enrolled at Miami Dade College during the past 12 months, complete the Application Packet available from the Admission Office’s on any MDC Campus.  Choose the Medical Campus as the "preferred" campus; be sure to enter "23048" under "Program Code."
  3. Register for and take the Computerized Placement Test (CPT) through Testing Services, Room 1303, Medical Campus, 305-237-4275, or through the testing center at any of the other MDC campuses. You must have tested out of the first level of college prep on the Computerized Placement Test (CPT), or, if you have taken the test but have not passed, then you must have satisfactorily completed the developmental courses prescribed by MDC as a result of your scores. College level course work or equivalent academic testing may be exempt students from the CPT test. Contact the Testing Center at any of the Miami Dade College Campuses for further information.
  4. You have earned a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of a least 2.0 on a scale of 4.0 on any college-level courses you have taken.
  5. If you have previously attended any other college or university, arranged for that institution to send official transcripts to the Registrar’s Office at the Medical Campus.
  6. Apply to the Paramedic program by completing the Paramedic application packet and submitting the completed Paramedic application packet to the EMS Department at the Medical Campus.  To be eligible for admission to the Paramedic program, applicants must:
    1. Submit a Paramedic program application packet for program admission
    2. Documentation of enrollment in or successful completion of BSC 2085 and BSC 2085L – Anatomy and Physiology One (Lecture and Laboratory)
    3. Provide a copy of a current State of Florida Emergency Medical Technician certification certificate (submit copy with Paramedic program application)
    4. Provide a copy of a current BLS CPR card (submit copy with application)
    5. Submit a completed Student Health record (completed record must be submitted with application)
    6. Provide proof of Medical Insurance (Copy of card or signed waiver)
    7. Be at College level with English, Reading and Algebra
    8. Successfully complete the criminal background check through the identified College Vendor (documentation must be submitted with the application)          

The Emergency Medical Services Department provides two offerings for paramedic enrollment.  These include an offering according to the shift schedule used by various Miami Dade County Fire/Rescue municipalities.  These classes are offered from 8:00am until 9:00pm each shift day exclude weekends.

For the evening Paramedic Offering, classes are held Monday through Thursday from 5:00pm until 9:00pm alternating clinical rotations and lecture classes during these days.  Laboratory classes are scheduled every Saturday from 8:00am until 4:00pm.

The Miami Dade College Paramedic program Transfer of Credit Policy.

a. Transfer credits are only accepted from regionally accredited colleges and universities or nationally accredited institutions that participate in the Florida Course Numbering System unless a written agreement between Miami Dade and a specific post-secondary institution has been previously approved.

b. Courses from previous college/university will be evaluated after the student has applied to MDC.

c. MDC will determine how many credits, if any, will apply toward pre-requisite courses.

. Students who have taken courses in non-English speaking countries must have an official certified translation made of their credits and submit this translation to the Admissions Office and must successfully pass the TOEFL.
Students who are not F1 or J1 students are encouraged to take the TOEFL, please see an advisor for details.

e. Natural Science lecture courses older than 5 years (for foreign medical doctors, older than 10 years) must be repeated. Please see an advisor to confirm if your courses are expired. Only students with expired courses will be allowed to repeat the science lecture courses. Laboratory courses more than five years old, do not need to be repeated.

Advanced placement 
The Miami Dade College Paramedic Program does not provide advance placement.

Experiential learning
No credit for experiential learning will be awarded to a student in the Miami Dade College Paramedic Program.

Where Do I Send My MDC Application Materials?

You may send or drop off your MDC application to any Admissions office located on any of the campuses of Miami Dade College. Applications for admission may also be filled out on line at
You must also send the following:

  • Application fee (check or money order – no cash)
  • Official high school transcript and official college transcripts (if available) to the Admissions/Registrar’s Office.

Where Do I Send My Program Application Materials?

To be eligible for the Paramedic program, all applicants must come to the Medical Campus, Emergency Medical Services Department with the completed Paramedic application packet.  Only those students with a completed Paramedic application packet will be considered for enrollment into the paramedic program.

All Medical Campus students must complete the FDLE Waiver and Statement form.This form is to authorize dissemination to Miami Dade College - Medical Campus of any national criminal history record that may pertain to you.

In addition, all program students must complete a "background check" through the identified MDC agent and cleared by the 1st day of class. Depending on your program of study an additional background check may be required. In addition, prior to entry into a clinical site, some clinical sites will require more frequent background checks and clearance.

Successful completion of the MDC level two background check process or completion of a MDC nursing/health sciences program does not guarantee a graduate's eligibility for participation in the professional credentialing process or for related employment. Credentialing agencies and health care employers may have additional eligibility criteria not required by an educational institution. Individuals who have been arrested or convicted of any felony crime during the last 15 years are strongly urged to inquire directly of the licensing board in the jurisdiction in which they intend to practice.
