Miami Dade College purchases a wide range of commodities and services from many businesses. The selection of vendors and contractors is based on criteria which may include competitive prices, quality and timely delivery of services or goods.

Opportunities to participate as a vendor are available in construction, construction-related work and the procurement of commodities, as well as in a range of professional services in areas as varied as engineering, medical, information technology and much more. Minority participation is encouraged in all projects.

It is the Purchasing Department's duty to assure that items, that are required by the departments, are purchased as expeditiously as possible while adhering to all of the rules and regulations established for procurement by the College, the State and according to good business practices.

Miami Dade College's commitment to the enrichment of this community extends beyond the classroom into the local economy. There is no better place to connect with the local economy than at Miami Dade College. As one of the county's largest and most diverse organizations, Miami Dade College is uniquely positioned to initiate and develop partnerships with businesses as a catalyst for revitalization of our community. Therefore, it is the College’s strategic goal for the Small Local Business Enterprise (SLBE) Program to partner with the community, and foster economic growth and development of small and local businesses. In keeping with this goal, the College has adopted and approved a new Small Local Business Enterprise Policy with initiatives to support our growing local economy.

Meeting the Needs of the Workforce

The Office of Workforce Education and Development

Workforce and Professional Programs houses all the academic schools at Miami Dade College, the schools of Education, Science, Justice, Business, Engineering and Technology. Our office also includes a number of centers and programs, including our Career Technical Education and Continuing Education programs.

Institute for Civic Engagement and Democracy

If you are a community agency, we can connect your with students who are service-learning, a form of experiential education in which students engage in activities that address human and community needs. Contact us and we will set a meeting to help coordinate a service assignment.

The Hospitality Institute

The Hospitality Institute is a workforce development initiative designed to provide inner city residents with a bridge to job opportunities in the local hospitality industry. Since 2007, the Institute has provided training programs to thousands of participants at no cost to them in an effort to helps turn the lives of individuals around while supporting the workforce needs of the local hospitality industry. The Hospitality Institute is a beacon of hope in the heart of Miami’s inner city. Participants are exposed to various hospitality/restaurant operations, customer service, application and resume preparation, interview skills, basic computer skills and general employment information. Recently, the Institute also launched a 12-week basic culinary skills training program. Training is provided by instructors from Miami Dade College, and many local businesses, as well as other passionate volunteers. All graduates of the job training program are eligible to attend a Job Fair where they can meet employers from the hospitality and tourism industry.
