Roy helped New York University (NYU) design and build its data science programs. He was on the strategy team that recommended to the Provost that a data science teaching and research organization be created. He subsequently was the lead designer for the MS in Data Science, which he then implemented, taking it from no students to about 300 graduates, all of whom got jobs doing data science work or entered a data science doctoral program. Subsequently, he helped design NYU’s doctorate and two undergraduate majors in data science.

He leveraged his research in machine learning to co-found 7 Chord, a company that predicts corporate bond prices in real time. He is an advisor to Blumberg Capital, where he reviews the AI strategies of proposed portfolio companies. He is on the advisory committee for iDSC, the University of Miami’s initiative on data science and large-scale computing.

His founded Applied Data Science, LLC, a small consulting company that helps organizations leverage artificial intelligence (AI). He has taught seminars on AI and ran workshops helping companies figure out how to get started with AI.

Prior to his involvement in artificial intelligence, he was CTO at large companies including Reuters and Capital One. He was a partner at the Boston Consulting Company, where he helped clients strengthen their information technology organizations and better leverage information technology in their business strategies.

He has a doctorate in computer science from New York University, an MBA with High Distinction from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration, and a BA in Mathematics cum laude from Vanderbilt University.

He lives in Miami with his wife Judith Carlin, an artist.
