Made up of some of Miami Dade College’s most celebrated music graduates from Wolfson Campus’ Department of Arts and Philosophy and MDC’s New World School of the Arts, the performance by these alumni includes pianist Kemuel Roig, saxophonist Hery Paz and guitarist Richard Padrón.

Kemuel Roig has forged an exciting career, initially being part of famed trumpeter Arturo Sandoval’s band and touring with guitar legend Al Di Meola. Genesis, his first recording as a leader, was released in 2020 and features Chris Potter, Randy Brecker, Alain Pérez and Julio Padron. In November 2020, Roig recorded his most recent musical project called Live Acoustic Session.

After leaving MDC, Hery Paz continued his studies with Gary Campbell at Florida International University, earning a bachelor’s degree in Music, and New England Conservatory, earning a master’s degree in Music under Jerry Bergonzi. Having moved to New York City, his musical skills have led to performances with some of jazz’s most celebrated musicians, including Dave Liebman, Kris Davis and Francisco Mela.

Richard Padrón, an accomplished composer and guitarist, is known for his versatility and virtuosity. “On electric and acoustic guitars, he writes music in a very particular way, using unusual melodic, rhythmic and harmonic approaches. His guitar playing is compelling, powerful and passionate,” writes NEA Jazz Master Paquito D’Rivera.

These amazing musicians will come together, some for the first time, to perform several original compositions. Their gathering for an alumni performance will be a landmark for the jazz program at the Wolfson Campus. They will be accompanied by MDC’s jazz faculty musicians Ludwig Afonso on drums and Gary Thomas on bass.

All concerts are free and open to the public. Live performances will take place at Wolfson Campus Auditorium, 300 N.E. Second Ave., Miami, FL 33132. Building 1, Room 1261. Performances will be livestreamed, except for the student ensembles.
