About Urbana

History

Housed in the Communication, Arts & Philosophy Department, Urbana was founded in 2008. Every year students at the Padrón Campus come together to publish an annual issue of fiction, non-fiction, photography and drawing submitted by any student currently enrolled. Typically, a theme is chosen that unifies the work. See the archive to take a look at past issues.

The Urbana editors and designers have complete creative control. The magazine has gathered numerous awards over the years showcasing the creativity and collaboration of students. All awards are listed on the awards tab.

There have been many faculty advisors. For many years Professor Emily Sendin guided the students on her own or with other colleagues such as Alex Salinas, Liza Greenberg and Omar Figueras. As of 2022, Professors Omar Figueras and Alicia Garcia have co-advised the student organization.
