Turnitin - Originality Check, Online Grading & Peer Review

Plagiarizing (including self-plagiarizing) constitutes academic dishonesty, which students do when they submit others' ideas or work as their own. It may be very tempting to use information found in the internet in course assignments; but unless your sources are fully and accurately disclosed, this is plagiarism. Many faculty use Turnitin to determine whether or not their students' work is original. Plagiarized work will most likely result in a "0" for the assignment.

Turnitin is the global leader in evaluating and improving student learning. The company provides service for originality checking, online grading and peer review. This tool provides rich feedback to students by facilitating personalized information from their instructors.

Key Features:

  • Ensures Originality – Students' work is checked for potential plagiarism by comparing it against the world's largest comparison database. Make sure your assignments are yours and not copied from any other source.
  • Smarter Grading – Students will receive legible, timely feedback while saving instructors grading time. A variety of grading options allows for students to receive several kinds of feedback to enrich their learning experience.
  • Streamline Peer Reviews – Students don't just learn from instructors; they also learn from one another. Turnitin facilitates peer review so that students can evaluate each other's work and learn from their classmates.

How it Works:

  1. Instructors set up a class and assignments in the Turnitin service.
  2. The online students or instructors then submit the student's work to Turnitin via file upload or cut-and-paste.
It is the option of the instructor to select which Turnitin core functions he or she will use for their course and assignments.
